Dumaguete coach makes Jr. NBA cut

A COACH FROM Dumaguete City has made the final cut in the 2011 Jr. NBA Philippines search for the Coach of the Year.

Making the cut was Stephen Signap Tia of Lucky Terminal from Dumaguete. 

According to press officer Kalvin Sangalang, Tia registered in Cebu and had some of his kids attend the camp there. 

The other coaches to make the list are Clint Mondano of Northeast Mindanao Colleges, Surigao City; Alvin Guadines of the Cavite School of St. Mark, Bacoor, Cavite; Rodel Berbon of Colegio de San Francisco, General Trias, Cavite; Ronaldo Joaquin Lacsamana of the Palawan Amateur BasketballAssociation, Puerto Preincesa City; Manuel Mercado of Sacred Heart College, Lucena City; Christopher M. Buhain of MIT International School, Bacoor, Cavite; Josep Glenn V. Faldas of Don Bosco Technical College of Mandaluyong City; Genesius G. Molto Jr. of Aquinas University of Legazpi City, Albay; and Luis C. Nolasco Jr. of Hope Christian High School, Manila.

Royal Oaks International School Elementary Basketball Team is set to defend is championship title in Mandaue City Amateur Basketball Association (MACABA). Lead by its dynamic captain ball, Erik Gjengaar, the elem’s are trying to get into the finals.

Preparation is being set for the coming semi-final round. And above with that, the Kings is just waiting for its next opponent. The kings are set to take its new level of training intended for the coming games. Coach Clint Mondano, the head coach of the kings. Is now shaping up the team for the coming games. “We have a title to defend. – Young Kings.”

Hoping for the best, the members of the team are all trying to give its best for the entire squad.

In Return to Form, Knights Rout CIC Again


January 17, 2009 - "There might have been some bumps in the road and some weaving and bobbing along their path toward defending their opponents, but the ROIS Knights appear to have emerged from their mini slump relatively unscathed.


The CIC B can vouch for as much after absorbing their first blowout loss to the Knights, this one a 97-63 defeat at the Lapu-lapu Basketball Gym in a Saturday matinee game that started as "embarrassing," in the words of Coach Clint Mondano, and ended humbly with Marco Antonio and Erik Gjengaar on the bench for the second half.
Marco Antonio scored 16 of his 27 points in the first half and Adrian Armenion and Erik Gjengaar combined for 35 points in abbreviated appearances. The three sat out the fourth quarter, except for a two-minute stint from Marco. Wisdom Ceniza also sat out the final quarter.
As they sat watching the string play out on another victory.

"First of all, I was just totally embarrassed about our performance," Clint said. "You know, it starts with me and it goes down to our main players. I think it was an embarrassing start to the game and I decided to go in another direction today."
With their days over prematurely in a game already decided.
"Obviously, we have a lot to work on," Justin said.
The victory was the first for the Knights (1-1), which started the tournament in a surprising line-up.

Perhaps, for the CIC B (0-2), their circadian rhythms were collectively out of whack because of the early start. Maybe, they peeked ahead to their games as the team just got their break on this tournament.
The dominant Knights seem to have returned, a team that does not just beat its opponents but slams the door on them early and firmly.
Knigths Coach Clint Mondano instructed his team to look at this three-game stretch - two games each against the team as a mini playoff series.
"From our vantage point, we didn't look at this thinking it was a big game," Fredrich said. "We were going to go out there and play them like we did in FBL. They're a team that has been playing well together for most of their games, so we didn't want to let them start the game off with a lot of confidence."
Any confidence the CIC B had was quickly lost.
The Knights opened the game with an 18-2 run, then outscored the CIC by 39-24 in the second quarter. Through much of the first quarter, the Knights backup Job Ramos, Paolo Trayvilla, Wisdom Ceniza and Justin Daomilas had outscored the CIC with his 7 early points.

What went wrong... a Coach view


The turnaround is complete. And it came just in a little late.
For the owner of the ROIS Knights, their team's championship loss was not only elating but considered to be a victory. The trophy came in their third full season as a team; any longer and their chances of ever reaching number one would have declined dramatically, recent history shows.
"We had a sense of urgency from day one, and we knew we had a three-to-five-year window to make progress to build a championship team," said Clint Mondano, coach of the team.
Spending time and making sacrifices was critical. But there was a heavy dose of pure desire in the mix, too. "We kind of lived and died with the team," Mondano said.
"All you can really do is plan to contend for a championship," Mondano said. "You can't plan to win one."

New Center To play For The Young Knights: YUTA ITO


Young Knights - YUTA ITO will be playing for the young knights for the coming Cebu Youth Basketball League that is set to open, January 31, 2009. This is a new player with no experience at all.


Coach Clint Mondano decided to put him in the roster to add more depth and height for the young knights. Yuta, 5'7" in height is now under training in preparation for the coming tournament. With no basic and fundamentals, Coach Mondano is hoping that he will be able to teach Yuta and be able to use him in the tournament.

With high hopes, the young knights is excited to play with Yuta. In its few days playing with the team, Yuta already made its impact to count the less, is mare presence in the middle give the young knights the boost to play inside game.


Yuta Ito will provide more space in the middle, power game, and most of all rebounds.
